Our Care & Daily Life

A structured, warm, and therapeutic environment where young people with complex needs can feel settled, safe, and supported every day.

Daily Routines

Structure and predictability are central to our approach — children with complex needs thrive in consistent, predictable environments. Each day at Nodera includes set wake-up times, shared mealtimes, education, leisure time, and a settled bedtime routine, all communicated with warmth rather than rigidity.

We know that for many young people in care, everyday activities — cooking a meal, managing a morning routine, keeping a tidy room — are skills that have not been consistently modelled or supported. We invest time in these life skills deliberately, building confidence and independence alongside our care.

Education

We are committed to promoting the educational achievement of every young person in our care. Nodera is not registered as a school — young people attend appropriate educational settings in the local community, according to their individual needs, EHC plan (where applicable), and placement plan.

Before and after admission, we work closely with placing authorities and Virtual School Heads to ensure a suitable school place or alternative provision is secured, and we provide a structured after-school environment with time, space, and support for homework. Where a young person is not currently in education, employment, or training, we develop a structured daily programme to maintain learning and routine until a placement is found. Educational achievement — of every kind — is celebrated within the home.

Activities & Wellbeing

We believe in the importance of fun, rest, and opportunity. Young people at Nodera are supported to pursue interests across sport, creative arts, cultural and social activities, life skills, and community connection — matched to their individual interests and cultural background, with risk assessments enabling safe risk-taking rather than avoiding it altogether.

We take the emotional wellbeing of our residents seriously. Every child is registered with a local GP promptly, and access to CAMHS and other therapeutic support — including individual counselling, trauma-focused therapy, and art or play therapy — is actively pursued as part of each young person's care plan.

Respecting Identity, Culture & Family

A child's cultural, linguistic, and religious identity is a fundamental part of who they are, and it is our responsibility to nurture it — not to minimise it. A full cultural, linguistic, and religious needs assessment is completed for every young person at the point of placement, and dietary requirements, religious observance, and cultural celebrations are accommodated from day one.

We also recognise that children's relationships with their families — however complex — are fundamentally important to their identity and wellbeing. We actively promote and support contact between young people and their families and friends in line with each young person's placement plan and the decisions of the placing authority, including supporting digital contact in accordance with our Digital Safety Policy.
